Pretreatment of steel or certain other metal surfaces by chemical solutions containing metal phosphates and phosphoric acid as the active ingredients, to form a thin, inert, adherent, corrosion-inhibiting chemical conversion coating which serves as a substrate for subsequent paint coats.
