To certain people, ambition may be deemed pointless, vicious, "perverse" in an unjust society "arising from a lack of ability", a "dirty little secret", the dark side of self promotion, careerism, opportunism, or best kept hidden (as in Jay Gatsby, Sammy Glick, Uriah Heep). However, to career management professionals, ambition is an "ardent desire for rank, fame, or power", the "fuel and oxygen of achievement", intrinsically healthy, innate, a foundation for developing the complete person, a way of forming our own destiny.
