A feature supported by some printer drivers that allows the user to work with an application while documents are printing. These printer drivers send printing data to a spool file in the PrintMonitor Documents folder inside the System Folder.

A print server-is a combination of hardware and software that stores documents sent to it over a network and manages the printing of the documents on a printer. A print server completely frees a computer of a printing task so that the computer is free to be used for other work.
Being able to print a document without having to wait until it is completed before being able to use your computer again. Windows uses Print Manager to look after the printing of a document in background, allowing you to continue working while the printing takes place.
When background printing is on, the computer can be used for other operations while printing a document. When it is off, the computer will suspend all other operations while printing a document, but print data will be sent to the printer more quickly.
