Catering is...At UCSC, catering has a specific definition. To be considered catering, the caterer must both prepare and deliver the food for University-sponsored events. Delivery may be to the campus or an off-campus site where the event is held. Catering is not...If the food is prepared by a caterer but picked-up and delivered to the event by University staff, faculty, or students, this is not considered to be catering. What about pizza? When students or staff order pizzas for non-University sponsored functions and pay for them with personal funds, the University has no liability, and no special regulations must be followed. If pizzas are to be served at University-administered functions and/or are paid for with University funds, standard catering procedures must be followed if the pizzas are delivered by the pizza maker.
