was established on 15 June 1964 by the 77 developing countries signatories of the "Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Countries" issued at the end of the first session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva. While the membership of the G77 has since increased to 133 countries, the original name is kept for historic significance. The G77 is the largest developing country coalition in the UN and provides the means for developing countries to articulate and promote matters of collective economic interest.
