compression in which no information is lost. Saving a file repeatedly with lossless compression will not affect the image quality. The Animation codec set to 100% quality is lossless.
This refers to a codec that compresses only what it can, it will not actually cut out data. It reduces the size of music without affecting the quality, as the compressed signal is identical to the original. This results in large file sizes compared to an MP3 but still a large savings compared to the raw digital music file. In contrast a lossy format uses formulas based on a mathematical model of human hearing to calculate what humans can not hear well and discards the data in those frequencies.
A method of compression in which no data is discarded.
storage: Compression without data loss Example: StuffIt
No information lost. Term used to describe compression formats.
A compression protocol which does not sacrifice ("lose") any detail in compression or decompression. "Lossless" compression formats are essential in applications like compressing program files or backing up data from a hard disk. In applications which don't require exact reproduction of the file being compressed, a " lossy" protocol may be used. The ZIP format developed by PKWare is a "lossless" file compression protocol.
No information is lost compressing a raw image file. CCITT4 is one lossless compression scheme.
Refers to a form of data compression where the detail is retained and no data is lost after file downsizing. The lossless compression method is commonly used in TIFF and GIF formats.
A term describing a data compression algorithm which retains all the information in the data, allowing it to be recovered perfectly by decompression.
a compressed format) nor commercial DVDs can be transferred
The image quality remains the same even if the graphic is compressed.
Not losing any data/information.
A method of file compression in which audio data is not permanently discarded. While keeping all of a song's information results in a much bigger sound file, if preserving full audio fidelity is of highest importance, this is the way to go.
Used to denote a form of compression that does not degrade the quality of the image being compressed.
A type of data compression where none of the original data is permanently discarded. With lossless data compression, though the files are larger, discriminating listeners are assured the most precise replication possible of the original audio track. FLAC and AIFF are examples of lossless codecs.
When using compression to reduce text and/or graphic files, some techniques "throw away" data in the process. Methods that compress files without losing data are called "lossless". Examples include LZW (Lempel-Ziv Welch), PKZIP or Zip 8-bit.
compression method (e.g. ZIP)
Storing the image in a non-compressed format, see TIFF.
Every single bit of data that was originally in the file remains after the file is uncompressed.
A data compression scheme that doesn’t throw away or otherwise leave out any information from the original, uncompressed file. Graphic Interchange Format, GIF, uses a lossless compression scheme.
A way of compressing data without losing any information; formats such as GIF are lossless.
A format that stores the data in a non-compressed format, retaining all information.
Describes an image-compression method that retains all image detail. (See "LZW compression").
A compression scheme where the reconstructed image is exactly the same as the original. No data is lost.
A lossless compression system achieves a saving in file size without corrupting or changing the data compressed. The file is exactly the same after compression and decompression as it was before.
Characteristic of data compression algorithms such that when compressed data is decompressed, it is identical to the form it had prior to compression.
Fairly self-explanatory, lossy/lossless describes the character of a compression algorithm. Lossless algorithms concentrate on how to compact data without losing any information. Lossy algorithms concentrate on how to remove data that is less critical to human perception.
A compression scheme is loseless when decompressed file is exactly the same as the original. This is needed for compressing executable programs and data files.
A video/image compression method that retains all of the information present in the original data.
compression is a process that reduces the storage space needed for an image file without loss of data. If an image has undergone lossless compression, it will be identical to the image before it was compressed. Primarily used with bitonal images.
A lossless compression algorithm (as opposed to a lossy algorithm) achieves its space savings without any loss in data integrity. The compression must be fully reversible, and uncompression must result in an exact copy of the original data.
See Compression, lossless.
Scanners. Data compression algorithms that store data in a more efficient format that does not cause any data loss in the compression process. Typically this type of compression has a ratio of up to 8:1.
A compression scheme is loseless if no information is discarded during compression.
Image and data compression applications and algorithms which reduce the stored size of a data or graphic file without losing critical data.
