One or two piece blade collar around the Nakago, above the tsuba, used to secure the blade into the scabbard. Sets securely into the notches of the Ha and Mune-Machi's. Made from a variety of metals, usually copper, and sometimes gold-plated.
The habaki (啖呵) is a piece of metal encircling the base of the blade of a Japanese bladed weapon. It has the double purpose of locking the tsuba (guard) in place, and to maintain the weapon in its scabbard (saya).
