Below the fold, a newspaper term adopted by Internet marketers, means the section of a web page which can be seen only by scrolling down. Links and ads below the fold are less likely to be clicked.
This term is borrowed from the printing industry. Newspapers are folded in half and the content that is located below the fold is called just that. So, a similar concept is used with web pages. The content that is further down that page - in a location that you need to "scroll to" in order to view - is called "below the fold.
