It is a type of thyristor which is designed for electronic control of the supplied current into a circuit, like in dimmers for lighting systems.
A solid state switching device that controls an A.C. load, used in place of a relay in a timer. v Variable external – A timer that is supplied with a timer adjusting potentiometer separate from the main unit. Two terminals for connecting wires are on the timer.
A gated switching device which will conduct in either direction.
A solid-state bidirectional latching switch that provides full-wave control of ac power. The terminals of a triac are Anode 1, Anode 2, and Gate.
a semiconductor component similar to the thyristor but which will conduct in either direction
a bidirectional device and therefore only one is needed
a bi-directional thyristor used in A
a semicinductor device that can pass both phases of an AC waveform-unlike an SCR
a small semiconductor device, similar to a diode or transistor
a solid state semiconductor that acts as a switch for AC power
A device, similar to a controlled rectifier, in which both the forward and reverse characteristics can be triggered from blocking to conducting (Also see Thyristor).
An electronic switch used in applications such as power switches, light dimmers and motor controls.
A three-terminal device that is similar to two SCRs back to back with a common gate and common terminals. Although similar in construction and operation to the SCR, the triac controls and conducts current flow during both alternations of an ac cycle.
A solid-state switching device used to control alternating current circuits.
A solid-state switching device used in switching AC wave forms.
A solid state switching device used to switch alternating current wave forms.
Similar to a thyristor but allows current to flow in both directions as in diagram below.
This is a solid state device often used to switch AC voltage/current.
A solid state device where 2 silicon controlled rectifiers are joined back to back while still connected together.
a type of semiconductor device where 5 layers form 3 PN junctions in each of two directions. Triacs are equivalent to two thyristors in anti parallel.
A bidirectional thristor that can be triggered into conduction. A bidirectional thyristor whose forward and reverse chacteristics are identical to the forward characteristics of the SCR.
A solid-state switching device used to control current during both alternations of an ac cycle. Similar in construction to two SCRs back-to-back, with a common gate and common terminals.
Bidirectional gate controlled thyristor similar to an SCR, but capable of conducting in both directions. Provides full wave control of AC power.
A TRIAC, or TRIode for Alternating Current is an electronic component approximately equivalent to two silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs/thyristors) joined in inverse parallel (paralleled but with the polarity reversed) and with their gates connected together. This results in a bidirectional electronic switch which can conduct current in either direction when it is triggered (turned on). It can be triggered by either a positive or a negative voltage being applied to its gate electrode.
