Definitions for "U-law"
Edit / Also known as mu-law. A method of digitally encoding analogue signals that is used mostly in the USA. It is similar to another encoding scheme called A-law, but uses different amplitude table mappings making it incompatible with a-law encoding. See Also: A-Law
Companding/encoding law commonly used in North America.
A lossy compression algorithm based on pulse code modulation (PCM) that converts an analog signal from 16-bit to 8-bit, and modifies the dynamic range of the signal for digitizing. Commonly used in the United States. Also referred to as mu-law.
