Definitions for "Calling Cards"
These cards provide 800 number access to local, domestic and international calling. To use one, you first dial a toll-free 800 number, enter your personal PIN number, then dial the number you want to reach. Charges can either be prepaid or billed to your regular phone account. Prepaid cards can either be Fixed -- the value is preset and you throw away the card when the money runs out; or Rechargeable -- you can add additional time through your credit card. Calling Cards can either be obtained through your long distance provider or by purchasing them from a retail provider. You can pay anywhere from 5 cents to 85 cents per minute for the same service depending on your source. Rates and surcharges (the amount added to each call) vary greatly so do your homework carefully before using any of these cards.
