A category of actions (identified in agency guidance) that does not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the human environment and requires neither an Environmental Assessment (EA) nor an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
an action that does not individually or cumulatively have a significant impact on the human environment. This Categorical Exclusion does not require an Environmental Assessment nor an Environmental Impact Statement.
As described under the National Environmental Policy Act, these are a category of federal actions that do not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the human environment which therefore neither an Environmental Assessment nor an Environmental Impact Statement is required. The Council on Environmental Quality NEPA Regulations gives federal agencies the authority and discretion to determine which of their own activities should be categorically excluded from NEPA. The types of activities that can be categorically excluded vary between agencies. (The NEPA Handbook)

(CE) - an action which the agency has determined will not have any significant environmental effect and hence will not require application of the NEPA process.

a category of actions that do not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the human environment and have been found to have no such effect in procedures adopted by a Federal agency pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (40 CFR 1508.4).
A technical exclusion for projects that do not individually or cumulatively result in significant environmental effects; such projects are not required to prepare environmental documentation (environmental assessment or environmental impact statement). See National Environmental Policy Act.
1. A class of actions which either individually or cumulatively would not have a significant effect on the human environment and therefore would not require preparation of an environmental assessment or environmental impact statement under the National Environmental Policy Act. 2. For wastewater loan projects which meet certain specified criteria a loan recipient may request a Categorical Exclusion form the Environmental Assessment. If DEQ grants a Categorical Exclusion, the loan recipient does not have to prepare and submit an Environmental Assessment. Categorical Exclusions are relative to projects which do not have significant environmental impacts due to the nature of the work and/or the size of the project.
Categorical Exclusions are established by the National Environmental Policy Act, and are defined as categories of actions, which do not individually or cumulatively have a signifcant effect on the human environment and therefore noramlly do not require futher analysis in either an environmental assessment or an environmental impact statement.
a category of actions (identified in agency guidance) that do not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the human environment, and for which neither an environmental assessment nor an EIS is required (40 CFR 1508.4).
A term applied to actions that do not individually or cumulatively have a significant Effect on the human environment and for which, therefore, neither an Environmental Assessment (EA) nor an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required.
If no extraordinary circumstances exist which might cause a significant impact in the specific case, some actions can be "categorically excluded" from documentation in an EA or EIS. Unlike an EA or EIS, there is no formal pre-decision comment period with a categorical exclusion (except for scoping).
