A file format which describes an image or graphic as a series of POSTSCRIPT commands. EPS graphics can contain RASTER or VECTOR elements, or both. This graphics format is usually produced by drawing software such as Adobe Illustrator or by image-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, and can be placed in PAGE LAYOUT programs such as QuarkXPress. EPS graphics can not be printed accurately on non-PostScript printers.
The file format of the PostScript page description language. The EPS standard is device independent, so that images can easily be transferred between different applications, and they can be sized and output to different printers without any loss of image quality or distortion.
Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) is a subset of regular PostScript. The restrictions placed on EPS files are for making it an appropriate format for importing into applications that import PostScript.
A format used in graphics programs to smooth out graphics so there are no jagged edges. The files can be resized in a page layout program.
PostScript is a page description language developed by Adobe. It encodes vector artwork as a series of mathematic descriptions, allowing vector artwork and text to be stored and resized irrespective of resolution. Bitmaps can also be embedded in PostScript files, making this a useful format for both line art and combination figures. EPS files can be placed in larger PostScript publications. We recommend this format for vector and combination of vector and bitmapped images. PC suffix .eps.
A subset of PostScript used to exchange a single graphic image in the PostScript format.
A graphic image stored using instructions written in the postscript page description language. EPS graphic files contain special effects along with high-resolution images.
A file format used to transfer PostScript image information from one program to another. The file includes PostScript code and a low resolution (PICT) representation of the image.
EPS files are vector graphics, they can be scaled without loss of quality. EPS files are unique because they can contain both vector and bitmap graphics. EPS graphics have a “header graphicâ€, which is typically a low resolution TIFF, although some software programs allow you to choose what format the header graphic is. When you place an EPS file into a page layout program, such as QuarkXPress, or a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word, the header graphic is what you see. You can only print EPS graphics to a PostScript printer. If you try to print an EPS file to a non-PostScript printer, only the low resolution header graphic will print.
A standardized format used to store PostScript images.
An art file that can be created from many programs and contains most of the information necessary to output the file. In several illustration programs the .eps file is not editable and the original art file (ie., .cdr, .fh4 or .fh5) is necessary to be able to trap and make changes. Commonly generated from Adobe Illustrator, Aldus Freehand, Corel Draw or Adobe Photoshop.
A format used in graphic programmes to smooth out any edges on the graphics in order to eliminate jagged edges. The files may be re-sized in a page layout programme.
(EPS) A file format that stores PostScript information in an image file so that it may be transferred as a unit to a suitable page layout or drawing program or used for preparing images for later typesetting. An encapsulated PostScript file has two parts: a low resolution (72 dpi) bitmap picture of the screen and a full resolution-independent PostScript description to pass on to a suitable printer.
language file format can contain both vector and bitmap graphics and is supported by virtually all graphic, illustration, and page-layout programs. The EPS format is used to transfer PostScript language artwork between applications. EPS can be easily exported from most graphics and desktop publishing applications.
PostScript language file format containing vector and sometimes bitmap info with encapsulated bitmap preview
A file format used to transfer PostScript data within compatible applications.
Encapsulated PostScript is an extension of the PostScript language. EPS is designed to be incorporated into other PostScript documents. NAMOT2 produces EPS output, which is for all intents and purposes the same as PostScript.
resolution-independent file format supported by many graphics applications on multiple platforms, including Macintosh and Windows. Postscript files are scalable so that they print nicely regardless of the resolution of the output device or the size of the image printed. See EPS.
A computer file format used in professional graphic design.
An image description format. EPS translates graphics and text into descriptions to a printer of how to draw them. The font and pictures themselves need not be loaded into the printer; they've been "encapsulated" into the EPS code.
