When substantial text changes are made to a book, the edition designation changes and is a new or revised or enlarged edition. Numbers rather than names often are applied (second edition). A useful text or technical title will go through many editions, perhaps with many printings of each.

A new edition containing changed material from the original text, sometimes with additions that supplement it and/or bring it up to date. See Edition.
