An information system responsible for processing the day to day transactions of a business. Mostly these are financial transactions such as sales and purchases. Transactions are entered and then either committed or rolled back. Transactions can only be committed permanently to a database if all the changes required have been completed successfully. If any part of the transaction can not be completed then the transaction is "undone" with a roll back.
