Definitions for "By request"
This phrase, found after the name of a legislator in the sponsor sectionon the top of a printed Bill, indicates that the legislatordoes not endorse the Bill which s/he introduced as the result of the rightof Free Petition. (See also Free Petition)
A phrase used when a Senator or Representative introduces a bill at the request of an executive agency or private organization but does not necessarily endorse the legislation.
Introduction of a Bill that the sponsor may not fully support but has submitted as a service to a constituent.
