The reddish yellow coating formed on iron when exposed to moist air, consisting of ferric oxide or hydroxide; hence, by extension, any metallic film of corrosion.
A minute mold or fungus forming reddish or rusty spots on the leaves and stems of cereal and other grasses (Trichobasis Rubigo-vera), now usually believed to be a form or condition of the corn mildew (Puccinia graminis). As rust, it has solitary reddish spores; as corn mildew, the spores are double and blackish.
To contract rust; to be or become oxidized.
To be affected with the parasitic fungus called rust; also, to acquire a rusty appearance, as plants.
To cause to contract rust; to corrode with rust; to affect with rust of any kind.
The corrosion of steel or iron is an electrochemical phenomena wherein the base metal reverses to a lower, more stable energy state. If the corrosive environment is water or brine, then the corrosion product formed is commonly know as rust. In the case of other chemicals, such as alkalies or acids, other combinations of iron salts are formed as part of the corrosion product. The electrochemical corrosion process may be retarded or stopped by the proper use of protective coatings. One preventive method provides an insulation barrier between the corrosive environment and the metallic substrate. This type of protection is exemplified by the painting of structural steel with organic coatings such as epoxies, alkyds and acrylics. An even more effective method is to use a more reactive metal such as zinc. A conductive zinc-filled coating protects the metal by galvanic protection. The zinc sacrifices itself and corrodes in preference to the steel.
A corrosion product consisting primarily of hydrated iron oxide.
Powdery or crusty, brownish-yellow coating of iron oxides commonly see on iron materials after they come in contact with water.
A brown mold resembling the rust in iron. Rust affects stamp paper and gum in tropical regions.
a red or brown oxide coating on iron or steel caused by the action of oxygen and moisture
a reddish-brown discoloration of leaves and stems caused by a rust fungus
the formation of reddish-brown ferric oxides on iron by low-temperature oxidation in the presence of water
become destroyed by water, air, or an etching chemical such as an acid; "The metal corroded"; "The pipes rusted"
cause to deteriorate due to the action of water, air, or an acid; "The acid corroded the metal"; "The steady dripping of water rusted the metal stopper in the sink"
Rust is a plant disease that gives a "rusty" appearance to a plant and characterized by dense masses of reddish-brown spores. Picture: Rust on Greenhouse Plant
Corroded iron. Red iron oxide deposited on metal. Also other metal oxides formed by corrosion.
Rust is a cast iron corrosion product and can lead to the formation of brown coolant. In the cooling system, the formation of rust indicates poor maintenance. It is caused by ineffective or low level of corrosion inhibitors. It is very often caused by an underfill situation in which air is entrained and trapped in the system. Those areas devoid of coolant will rapidly corrode in the high humidity and temperature conditions present.
similar in appearance to "foxing", rust is a reddish brown mold resembling the rust in iron, disfiguring stamps in tropical, humid climates
The reddish, brittle oxide formed on iron or its alloys. It is a result of exposure to air and humidity or chemicals.
A product of corrosion, consisting of hydrated oxides of iron, and happening only to ferrous alloys. atin Finish A distinctive finish, where the metal has been " brushed", usually with sand paper of a fine grade, creating a pattern of extremely fine, parallel lines, while still allowing the metal to keep a small amount of it's original reflective brilliance. Not a mirror finish.
A powdery scaly red, orange, brown color formed on the surface of irons due to an abundance of oxygen and water.
A reddish-brown coloration of fur, usually appearing on the side, flanks, or feet of rabbits, having the appearance of iron rust and being foreign to the standard color. Rust usually appears in American Blues, Black Havanas, and Lilacs. May be caused by fading through over-exposure to the sunlight, dirty hutches, or dead hair about to molt.
Orange or brown residue that accumulates in fight straps from repeated washings.
A disease caused by a fungus that results in a layer of reddish-orange material forming on the leaf or stem surface. The rust material will come off the plant readily when rubbed.
A reddish or yellowish-brown coating formed on iron or steel caused by oxidation, usually as a result of moisture; ferrous oxide.
a corrosion product consisting of hydrated oxides of iron.
Corrosion on iron and steel components.
Inevitable disintegration by time and moisture of iron and roses.
Reddish covering occurring on ferrous materials as a result of oxidation. Rust can be prevented by the use of special coatings that prevent oxygen from reaching the surface.
Rust is the chemical produced when iron compounds corrode in the presence of oxygen and water. It is a mixture of iron oxides and hydroxides. Rusting is a common term for corrosion, and usually is corrosion of steel.
