A company is fabless if it does not have its own factory for manufacturing integrated circuit Switch Core is fabless.
The attribute fabless means "without a fab". Fab stands for semiconductor fabrication facility.
This term refers to a company that produces chips but doesn't own a fabrication plant, or fab. These companies are starting to become more and more successful at creating chips and renting out other companies' excess fabs to produce their chips.
(FABricationLESS) A semiconductor vendor that does not have in-house manufacturing facilities. Although it designs and tests the chips, it relies on external foundries for their actual fabrication. Also, see foundry.
Non-manufacturer, used by semiconductor firms to explain their role as a chip designer but not a factory
a semiconductor company that uses foundries for all of it’s wafer fabrication requirements.
A semiconductor company that does not own or operate its own silicon wafer fabrication foundries but instead outsources manufacturing.
Semiconductor business that does not actually manufacture the semiconductors it sells. The fabrication is contracted to subcontractors called'semiconductor foundries'.
If you're unfamiliar with the term "fabless" - when it's used by a semiconductor company - it means that the company doesn't have its own wafer fabrication plant, but designs chips which will be manufactured using the production capacity of a 3rd party company. The term "wafer" - is because hundreds of integrated circuits are produced on a slice of silicon which in the old days used to be the shape and size of a (Catholic) communion wafer but wafers have now expanded to the diameter and appearance of a 12 inch CD. After adding layers of toppings, cooking and processing - the wafer is cut into individual chips. We used the pizza metaphor on our storage chips page - because there is some similarity with that industry. But Pizza tastes better and modern wafer fabs, can cost billions of dollars to build and commission. chips
Refering to chip producers that don't have their own fabrication plant, rather outsources production to 3rd party manufacturers.
A semiconductor company with no wafer fabrication capability.
