or Cylinder Bore: The internal surface of a cylindrical volume used to retain and seal a moving piston and ring assembly. "Bore" is commonly used to refer to the cylinder bore diameter, unusually measured in inches or millimeters. Bore surfaces are machined or ground precisely to afford an optimum ring seal and minimum friction with the moving piston and rings.
(n.) The inside of a barrel. May be smooth or rifled.
The internal diameter of a firework tube, this determines the size of the effects or shells contained within. Generally, a wider bore means a more powerful effect, e.g. a 30mm candle will be significantly better than a 14mm candle.

The measurement of a cylinders diameter (see also stroke).
The inside diameter of a cylinder.
Generally, the inside of a rifle barrel. Specifically, it is the smaller diameter hole that is made before rifling grooves are cut into it. For example, the 7.62x39mm cartridge fired by the SKS uses a rifle barrel with a nominal 7.62mm bore diameter.
The bore diameter of a weapon. For rifled weapons it is usually the land or minimum diameter. This is expressed in either inches or millimeters. Some early rifled weapons and both early and present shotguns bores use the "GAUGE" terminology, defined elsewhere.

Bore, when used in the context of piston engines, is a measurement of the diameter of the holes bored into the engine block for use as cylinders. The ratio of stroke to bore is a major factor in defining the characteristics of an engine. Generally, bigger bore yields fast-revving engines with low rotational mass and therefore higher rev limits with later torque peaks and overall higher top end power at the expense of torque throughout the operating range.
