Shotgun muzzle design or attachment to reduce spreading of shot.
(n.) A slight constriction in the internal diameter of the bore near the muzzle end of the barrel. On shotguns, this is done to improve the pattern of the shot, to keep it from spreading out too quickly. Some rifled arms are also slightly choked as an aid to increased accuracy. This is especially true of precision airguns. The noted barrel maker Harry Pope made choked rifle barrels.
The construction of a shotgun bore at the muzzle end designed to control the spread of the pellet charge at a given distance.
The degree of narrowing or constriction of the bore at the muzzle end of the barrel, intended to increase the effective range of the gun.
constrict (someone's) throat and keep from breathing
a constriction in the last couple of inches in the barrel and can vary in the degree of constriction
To miss an easy shot. Usually accompanied by a lame excuse for choking.
Restricted area in the muzzle of a rifle or gun which controls the direction of the shot.
A constriction in the barrel of a shotgun that changes the shot pattern to provide either a narrower or wider pattern of shot, depending on the intended application.
Restriction at the muzzle end of a shotgun that affects the shot pattern.
Blockage area close to the muzzle of a rifle. This effects the accuracy of the shot.
An adjustable or removable bored steel fitting designed to restrict flow and/or control production from a gas well or an oil well.
An interior constriction at or near the muzzle end of a shotgun barrel for the purpose of controlling shot dispersion.
The muzzle constriction on a shotgun to control spread of the shot.
When a player is under pressure and hits a really bad shot.
A constricting tube at the end of a shotgun barrel, which changes the pattern of how the shot spreads out. Chokes come in different configurations to give varying effects. To hold the firearm closer to the top of the grip. ("Choke up on that a little and see if that helps.") misfeed. ("My gun just choked.") To mess up under stress, especially the stress of competition. ("Well, I was worried about shooting against Kay Miculek, and I just choked.")
The bore of a shotgun barrel, the inside diameter of which is smaller at the muzzle than at the breech, designed to compress or constrict the load of shot in its travel through the barrel so that it leaves the muzzle in a more compact mass. A limit exists beyond which the mass cannot be compressed without deforming or smashing individual shot in the charge and thus causing a spotty shot pattern with large spaces where no shot has struck.
A constriction at the muzzle of a shotgun barrel, designed to control or reduce the spreading and dispersion of the shot charge.
An interior constriction at or near the muzzle end of a shotgun barrel bore that controls the pattern of shot dispersion. A shotgun barrel with no choke is called cylinder bore.
A narrowed part of a shotgun barrel, as in a chokebore.
The restriction at the muzzle of a shotgun used to control the dispersion of the shot.
An orifice with a small-diameter bore, installed at the wellhead in a line to restrict and control the rate of production.
A constriction at or near the muzzle of a shotgun barrel that affects shot dispersion.
A constriction at the muzzle of a shotgun barrel designed to control the spread, or dispersion, of the shot charge.
