a major new edition of the software, which usually contains significant new functionality
a release of the software containing various technologies and architectures
This is a number that indicates what release of a program you are using. Generally there is a sub number that indicates the build as well.
a uniquely identified complete release or re-release of a work product at a specific point in time.
A related term for edition. Versions may indicate major or minor changes and, as such, may not constitute a reliable guide to indicate a new edition. See also Edition.
An edition or revision of a software package.
A product that is intentionally produced a little different from others of the same type. Action Fleet vehicles have been produced with different versions in order to correct a problem with an earlier release or to create a "new" product by using a different paint style (which saves the company the cost of producing an entirely new mold).
First digit in a product number (this number always changes in a major release). A change in the version number signifies a Major release, introducing significant new functionality. All supported customers will be shipped (or notified of) a major release. (e.g. 2.0 to 3.0)
1.4] "Version" is used by JCR for versioning, so repository Nodes have "versions", but "Documents" have "Revisions".
Software applications undergo perpetual development and each incremental improvement of a particular software is usually called a new version. This is usually denoted numerically.
A major release of PTC software (e.g. 18.0, 19.0, etc.) which includes hundreds of enhancements over previous releases.
A particular edition of a software program.
A number indicating the release edition of a particular piece of software.
A particular instance of an application program or licensed program. The version, release, modification, and fix levels of a program. The version, release, modification, and fix levels together comprise the program level or version of a program. A new version of a program usually has significant new code or functions compared to the previous version. See also fix number, program level, modification number, release number, and version number.
A variation of a document in the docbase resulting from revisions to a previous iteration of the document. When a variation to a document is checked in as a new version of the document, the previous version remains in the docbase. The new version is added. Each version carries a version label. The first edition (the original) is always labeled 1.0.
a major edition of a software program. The version number changes when a software developer makes major alterations to the software such as adding new features. The version number is a whole number following the name of the software.
An initial release or re-release of a computer software configuration item, associated with a complete compilation or recompilation of the computer software configuration item; sometimes called a build. See Build.
A specific release of a software product. Version numbers are typically assigned in ascending order, thus the higher the number, the newer the software. Sometimes, to add a small feature or fix a small error, rather than release another version of a program, a manufacturer will release a revision of the software, which is represented in the version number as a decimal (e.g. Paint Shop Pro v 5.1).
When the HelpDesk asks for the "version" of your software application, they are asking which release of the software you have. For example Microsoft Office has different versions, such as Office 2000, Office XP, etc.
