One of the most important parts of Texas Holdem and rarely understood by beginners. Position refers to your place on the table relative to the blinds and the dealer puck. I have an entire section of this website devoted to it in the poker help box called Table Position. Please refer to that as it is an important concept to understand.
Position refers to where a player sits at the poker table. Since the dealer is the last player to bet, it is said that he or she has the best position, because they get to see what all the other players in the hand do ahead of them. The small blind has the worst position because he must act first, and does not know who will bet, call, raise, or re-raise behind them. Extremely important, often underrated poker concept. In most forms of poker, there is a big advantage to going last. In hold 'em, the player holding the button goes last on all rounds. Important Poker strategy, which takes into consideration the fact that in most forms of Poker, the Player acting last holds a distinct advantage. Being last to act means the player possesses more information available when deciding whether to Check, Bet, Raise, or Fold.
